Each year Summer Solstice has a poster and t-shirt contest once the theme is set.The theme this year is WAVE. The Artists in the community submit their finished works to illustrate the theme. The winner’s image appears on posters and marketing materials. There is an honorarium for the artist who is selected. There will be an ARTIST’S RECEPTION TBA, where the public can vote for their favorites, and continue voting online.
GUIDELINES FOR ARTISTS: The collection of artwork for the Poster and T-shirt art takes place at the Solstice Office, 924 Anacapa Street, Suite 3-h (third floor). Artwork must be ready to hang, with the title of the artwork, your name, address, email and phone number on the back.
Solstice provides the wording for the poster, so artists are free to express their vision for the poster and t-shirt, keeping in mind the theme. As a guideline, remember the final poster formats will be 18 x 24 “portrait” 24 x 18 “landscape”. Artwork does not have to be that size, it’s simply a guide. Think about posters that you love as artwork on your walls. Also, consider what it might look like on a t-shirt, for men and women and children, and of course, keep all the wonder, whimsy and fun of Solstice! An ad hoc committee consisting of a Board Member, the Executive Director, Artistic Director, a member of the staff and/or community member makes the final decision based upon public input, appropriateness and marketability. The T-Shirt may or may not be derived from the Poster Art. Artists may submit a separate design for a T-shirt as well as their poster designs.
